서울의 도시경쟁력 세계 7위
李明博, 吳世勳 서울시장이 그래도 일을 많이 하였다는 이야기이다.
서울시는 일본 모리기념재단이 주관한, 35개 세계 주요 도시들을 대상으로 한 ‘글로벌 파워 도시 지수(GPCI)’ 조사에서 역대 최고 성적인 7위를 기록했다. 글로벌 파워도시 지수(GPCI)는 세계 도시들의 국제 경쟁력을 측정하는데 도시 거주 경험자를 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 하고, 연구·개발, 문화·교류 등 6개 분야에서 OECD, UNESCO 등 국제기구의 통계자료와 자체 조사 결과를 종합 산출, 발표해왔다.
 
 서울은 지난 해는 베를린, 암스테르담에 이어 8위를 차지했으나 금년에는 암스테르담을 추월해 7위로 올랐다. 싱가포르 5위, 홍콩 8위, 베이징 18위, 상하이 23위로 조사됐고 뉴욕, 런던, 파리, 도쿄는 4년 연속 1~4등을 기록하였다. 서울은 2008년에 처음 GPCI 순위를 발표한 이후 3년 연속 상승세를 이어가게 됐다.
 
 서울시는 관광 자원이나 숙박 환경 등을 평가한 문화 교류 부문이 지난해 17위에서 올해 14위로 뛰었다. 교통접근성은 10위에서 8위로, 거주 적합성도 26위에서 24위로 개선됐다. 연구개발 분야는 지난해에 이어 올해도 5위였다. 반면 시장 매력도와 경제활력 등을 평가한 경제 부문은 지난해 16위보다 한 단계 떨어진 17위.
 
 GPCI 조사기관인 모리기념재단은 일본의 유명 부동산개발회사가 1981년 설립한 재단으로, 2008년부터 세계 35개 주요 도시를 대상으로 경쟁력 평가를 실시해 매년 10월 결과를 발표하고 있다.
