굶주린(?) 北, 5달간 스위스시계 230개 수입

2005년에도 2천여 개 들여와

북한이 지난 1월부터 5월까지 약 230개의 스위스 시계를 수입한 것으로 나타났다. 전 세계에 식량 지원을 호소하고 있는 북한이 이 기간 시계 구입비로 미화로 4만5천 달러 이상을 지출한 것.

지난 1월부터 5월까지 북한이 수입한 스위스 산 시계는 총 229개. 이 중 태엽을 감는 기계식 손목시계인 일렉트로닉(Electronic)이 174개, 전지로 작동하는 쿼츠 손목시계(Mechanical)가 55개였다. 시계 뿐 아니라 시계 부품도 9개 수입된 것으로 나타났다.

롤렉스, 오메가, 파네라이 등 200개가 넘는 스위스산 시계 브랜드를 관할하는 ‘스위스 시계산업연합(Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry)’에 따르면 이 기간 북한이 238개의 시계와 시계부품을 수입하면서 지불한 비용은 총 3만5천723 스위스 프랑. 미화로는 4만5천500만 달러 어치였다.

‘스위스 시계산업연합’의 수입통계 자료를 살펴보면 북한은 2005년에도 2천여 개의 시계를 수입하면서 35만 달러를 지불했다. 2006년 26개, 2007년 284개, 2008년 449개, 2009년 662개를 수입하는 등 북한의 시계 수입은 3년 연속 증가세를 보이다 2010년에는 393개로 다시 감소했다.

북한 정권은 나라에 공을 세운 간부에게 스위스 시계를 선물로 제공해 온 것으로 알려졌다. 북한 정권이 선물로 사용한 스위스 시계는 일명 ‘명함시계’라 불리며 김일성의 이름이 새겨져 있고 출처 확인을 위해 뒷면에 일련번호가 적혀 있어 외부에 돈을 받고 팔거나 분실한 것이 확인되면 처벌을 받는다. 북한에서 스위스 시계를 선물로 받은 사람은 이를 가보로 삼는 것으로 알려졌다.
