링컨의 50만 노예 해방 vs 우리의 2400만 북한해방
웅장한 時代精神을 불러낼 초인을 찾고 있다.

링컨은 50만 흑인노예 해방을 위해 內戰(내전)을 치렀다. 우리는 2400만 동족노예 해방을 위해 소근 거리는 지도자도 보이질 않는다. 수줍은 듯 ‘북한인권 개선’을 속삭이는 정치인 몇 명이 있을 뿐이다. 時代精神(시대정신)을 읽겠다며 세상의 눈치를 보지만 정작 링컨처럼 시대정신을 불러낼 생각은 하지 않는다.

 

링컨은 “만약 길 위에 독사가 기어 다니는 것을 본다면 나는 막대기로 죽일 것”이라고 말했다. 우리는 以北(이북)의 독사가 기어 다니다 못해 휴전선 넘어 국민을 살육해도 ‘천천히, 천천히’ 여유를 갖자고 말한다. 惡(악)한 길에서 떠나는 것이 옳고, 그 惡이 가족의 생명을 노리면 막대기를 들어야 하는데 이 땅엔 의로운 분노가 사라져만 간다.

 

남북전쟁 중 링컨은 이렇게 일갈했다.

 

“품삯 한 푼 주지 않고 노예의 땀으로 모은 250년의 재산이 모두 다 탕진될 때까지, 3천 년 전 말씀에 이르듯 채찍으로 남의 피를 흘리게 한 자가 스스로 칼에 맞아 그 피 한 방울, 땀 한 방울을 자기 피로 되갚게 되는 날까지 이 전쟁을 지속시키려는 것이 신의 뜻이라면 우리는 그저 하나님의 심판은 참되어 옳지 않는 것이 없도다. 그렇게 말해야 할 것입니다”

 

선과 악, 정의와 불의에 대한 명쾌한 기준을 가지고 링컨은 善(선)과 正義(정의)를 이뤘고 그 결단은 남겨진 세계에 ‘노예해방’이라는 역사의 도미노를 불렀다. 한국이 이룰 2400만 동족 ‘노예해방’은 독재에 시달리는 북방과 남방과 초원의 6000여 종족에 자유의 확산을 불러올 것이다. 링컨의 시대와 유사한 역사의 순환이다. 지금 한국은 이 웅장한 時代精神(시대정신)을 불러낼 超人(초인)을 찾고 있다.
