美 국무장관, 시리아 독가스 사용 규탄, 응징 예고

존 케리 미국 국무장관은 "시리아 정부가 독가스 사용에 대하여 은폐를 시도하고 있다면서 대가(代價)를 치르도록 하겠다"는 요지의 성명을 발표하였다. 유엔 조사단이 다마스쿠스 교외에서 화학무기 사용 상황을 조사하고 있지만 미국은 이미 시리아 정부의 소행으로 단정, 군사적 응징책을 준비하고 있다. 미국 영국 프랑스 터키는 유엔안보리에서 러시아가 거부권을 행사하더라도 공습이나 크루스 미사일 공격 등을 감행할 것 같다.
*케리 장관의 성명중 한 대목-
"화학무기로 민간인들을 무차별 학살하고, 여성과 어린이, 그리고 무고한 제3자까지 죽이는 것은 도덕적 타락이다. 어떤 기준으로도 용서할 수 없는 행위이다. 상당 부분 조작되었다는 애매한 변명에도 불구하고 이는 부인할 수 없는 사실이다."
“The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard, it is inexcusable. And despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable.”
반기문(潘基文) 유엔 사무총장도 어제 서울에서 '화학무기 사용은 인류에 대한 범죄'라면서 응징의 필요성을 강조하였다.
