북한에 있는 '對南(대남) 공작원' 가족들
남파된 자들이 주로 남조선 출신들
북한에서 유년시절을 함께 보냈던 소꿉친구가 있었다.
 
 아버지 없이 어머니와 단 둘이서 살았는데 그에게는 이상한 것이 두 가지 있었다.
 
 매번 놀러갈 때마다 그의 집 바람벽에 걸려있던 사진액자 속에는 유독 아버지 얼굴만 없었는데 그에게 아버지가 죽었냐 하면 "아니," 그럼 어데 갔니? 그러면 그냥 "몰라," 라고 대답하는 것이 이상스러웠다.
 
 다음 한 가지는 명절 때마다 군당 책임비서가 커다란 선물꾸러미를 들고 그의 집을 방문하는 것이었다.
 아버지도 없는 데 뭐 그리 대단한 수수께끼가 숨겨져있다고 저렇게 큰 사람들이 찾아드는 건지 생각해 볼수록 부럽기만 했다.
 
 세월이 흘러 그와 중학교를 같이 다니던 그 쯤 되서야 그의 아버지가 남조선에 간첩으로 파견되었고 그래서 그들 모자가 대남공작원(간첩)가족으로 분류, 조선노동당의 배려와 관심을 받는 다는 걸 알게 되었다.
 
 그때서야 그의 집에 있던 그 많은 사진들 중에 왜 아버지사진만 없었는지에 대한 의문도 풀리게 되었고 그가 간 군대도 평양호위국, 제대돼서는 평남도 모지역의 군당지도원으로 배치된 사연도 이해할 수 있었다.
 
 북한에는 그렇게 소위 “대남공작원(간첩)가족”들이 많다.
 
 필자가 살던 동네를 지역별로 계산해 봐도 전국적으로 그런 “대남공작원” 가족들이 얼마나 되겠는 가 짐작할 수 있다.
 
 해방과 전쟁을 겪는 혼란을 틈타 수많은 자들이 파견되었고 전후복구건설이 한창이던 60년대를 기점으로 대거 선발, 남한사회 요소요소에 침투시켰다는 것은 이제 비밀도 아니다.
 
 오죽 심각했으면 故황장엽 선생이 평양에 있을 때 여러 가지로 양심상 가책을 받으면서 남한정부 앞에 "남한 내 간첩들이 핵심부에 침투해 있다"는 서신까지 보냈겠는가,
 
 문제는 남파된 자들이 주로 남조선 출신들이라는 것이다. 그렇게 북한에서 고도로 조직화되고 지능화 된 벌건 물을 잔뜩 지고 내려와서 남한 가족친척들에게 한 점씩 묻혀준다고 가정해도 그 수는 가히 계산 밖이라는 생각이다.
 
 남한에 와서 살면서 지금처럼 보수와 진보, 우익과 좌익이라는 이념상 경계선이 이렇게 심각하게 노출돼 본적은 일찍이 없었다는 지인의 말을 들어보면 나름 이해가 되는 대목 같다.
 
 위에서 소개했던 소꿉친구 부친도 지금쯤 대한민국의 어느 골목, 아니 서울의 어느 값진 빌딩에 가족을 생산해 놓고 그들로 하여 또 다른 독버섯을 양산해내도록 뒤에서 지휘하고 있을 테니 말이다.
 
 그 자가 해방 후 북한에서 내려 온 민통당의 아무개씨나 노무현 재단 아무개씨 같은 실향민출신으로 깊이 잠입된 특정분자라고 가정한다면...자, 이래도 국민들 생각하시기에 그처럼 태평스러울지 묻지 않을 수 없다.
